What is Hypertension?
Hypertension or High blood pressure is a medically related condition. The pressure of the blood in the arteries is usually higher than the normal range i.e. 120/80 mm Hg. It may range more than 130/80 mm Hg or even 140/90 mm Hg. Hypertension is common among old age. The age group between 30-50 may experience high blood pressure due to their lifestyle. It’s uncommon with children but may experience if suffering from cardiac or brain problems.
Are there any symptoms related to hypertension?
There are not any specific symptoms related to high blood pressure. Studies and researches have shown that one experiencing hypertension may have a severe headache. Patients have swollen face and eye pain and lightheadedness due to high blood pressure. They may also feel lethargic.
Risk factors-
Hypertension accompanies many risk factors such as-
- Heart stroke
- Cardiac failure
- Organ failure
- Vision loss
- Even lead to brain stroke or brain haemorrhage
Prevention and blood pressure management –
High blood pressure cannot be cured but can be prevented by changing lifestyle habits.
One should work on losing weight, eat a healthy balanced diet, and prevent more salt intake. Stress management and saying no to alcohol. Light exercises on a daily basis help control high blood pressure. One should avoid caffeine and junk food. Avoid sugar-containing drinks. Stay hydrated.
Medications
Patients who experience high blood pressure regularly are prescribed antihypertensive formulated drugs. Drugs such as Thiazide can help control high blood pressure. Should only be consumed after doctor’s advice.
