Introduction: what is Parkinson’s disease?
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a disease of the brain ,spinal cord and its neurons.It affects the central nervous system of our body in a progressive manner.It is the Central nervous system of our body which consists of the brain and the spinal cord and is responsible for its working.It has responsibility for various body functions and body movements.It controls various body movements.It also controls breathing, digestive system, thinking ability etc. .
Is there any cure of Parkinson’s disease(PD)?
There is no cure for PD.It usually affects the people of age 60 or beyond.It is genetic and also affects due to many environmental factors.It also affects due to various medications,drugs and lifestyle habits.Impact of Parkinson’s disease on children is less than elderly people.But few cases have shown early PD signs during childhood.
Symptoms related to Parkinson’s disease –
- Patients experience problem in speaking
- Having writing problems due to shaking hands
- Impact on grip
- Difficulties in doing daily work
- Fatigue
- Dementia( loss of memory)
- Skin related problems such as melanoma
- Temor( shaking of hands ,legs ,face)
- Difficulties in understanding and thinking
Diagnosis
Recording of Medical history of the patients .
Early onset –
- Patients have problems in smelling
- gastrointestinal problems ( digestive issues)
- problems in speaking
- slow movements or problems in moving.
Test–
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Positron emission tomography (PET)
- Computed tomography (CT scan).
Rehabilitation and various exercise programs and a good balanced diet helps patients with Parkinson’s disease.
Medications –
- anti alpha synuclein drugs
- immunotherapy like vaccination
- various calcium restoring drugs.
Gene therapy – it is a therapy which helps to produce new cells that protects the neural system.
Conclusion
There is an estimation of about 90- 95 thousand people in the United States,diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.Men are 6 times more likely to have PD as compared to women.There is no cure for Parkinson’s disease.But there are various medications and therapies which help and provide relief.There are various counselling and rehabilitation sessions occurring all over the world to help PD patients.Government provides free health checkups for its country’s people.Always take advice from a doctor before starting any medication.
